【今日のスキット】
Kevin:

Liz:
○I hope it's good news. You make it sound like quite a milestone in life.
===> I hope it's good news. You make it sound like quite a milestone in life.
Sharon:
○Well, that might be a good way to put it.
===> Well, that might be a good way to put it.
Mike:
△What did you do, getting a new job or buy a house you something?
===> What did you do, get a new job or buy a house or something?
Liz:
△The way there's talking about it, you think they decided to finally get married and settle down after all they years of travel in the adventure.
===> The way they're talking about it, you'd think they decided to finally get married and settle down after all their years of travel and adventure.
これはやたらと長い文でした。何となく言ってることはわかるけど、be動詞や助動詞、andなど聞き取りにくいですね。
Mike:
○Those two? Imagine that -- Kevin and Sharon settling down to a quiet married life.
===> Those two? Imagine that -- Kevin and Sharon settling down to a quiet married life.
○... Hey, Liz. They're not laughing.
===> ... Hey, Liz. They're not laughing.
Liz:
○They're just grinning and gazing into each other's eyes.
===> They're just grinning and gazing into each other's eyes.
【Let's Listen and Write!】
(1) どうして君はそんなに否定的な物の言い方をしなくてはいけないんだ?
○Why do you have to put things so negatively?
===> Why do you have to put things so negatively?
(2) 彼の言い方からすると、状況はそれほど悪くなかったみたいだ。
△The way he put it, it sounded like things won't so bad.
===> The way he put it, it sounded like things weren't so bad.
後半の副詞節のところ、「won't」にすると動詞がなくなることに気がつかないといけません。
(3) 言葉ではとてもうまく表現できそうもないね。
△I don't think I can't put it into words very well.
===> I don't think I can put it into words very well.
これだと二重否定になって肯定に戻ってしまいますね。
